You hear it every day, music that inspires you. There is something different about certain songs or compositions that cause emotions to stir in the heart of man. The same chords, notes, voicings can be played by different musicians, but not all will produce the same result in the musical appetite of the listener. What causes this division? In this blog, we will delve into the art of musical inspiration, and what it is that carries us as musicians.
If compositions were made merely of notes, and we were merely walking computers, predictable in nature, then this magical separation would not exist. There is something deeper that calls out of certain songs that grips us by the heart and pulls us in. That is inspiration.
Inspiration comes from the Latin word inspiratio, which means "to blow into or upon, to infuse by breathing". By implication, it means the one who is speaking literally pours their essence into what they are saying, filling their very words with themself. If we apply this concept to music and playing the guitar, you can very easily see the difference between musicians. There are those who are echoing the sounds they have heard and there are those who are expressing their own sound for the first time. Every musician, without exception, will fall into one of these categories.
Which category do you fall into?
We do not teach mere information at Guitar Catalyst. Our students are trained to find their own sound and express it with untainted liberty. We will not teach you simple "licks" and "riffs" that others have played for centuries; we will teach you the art of building your own "licks" and "riffs" to brand your very own signature sound in the music world.
You will either be an imitation, or the one that others imitate.
